Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (Munchi’s Shoutout To Naffie Part II)

While we’re recovering from Electric Zoo, we wanted to give you this absolutely ridiculous gem from Munchi. In his own broken English:

This must be one of my favorite tracks ever - without a doubt. The Naffie remix of Satisfaction. It saddens me to know that it’s not even on Youtube and if you don’t have it you can’t find it anywhere online. Asmund played it out of nowhere at the Denmark gig when at the end of his set when we did a mini back 2 back, before Major Lazer came on. That must’ve been one of this years highlights for me, to see the entire crowd go down to Naffie’s remix.

I felt so fucking happy yo. Asmund asked me why I never did a remix of this since I already did a VIP of Naffie’s remix of ‘Blow Your Speakers’ (Moombah on Rotterdam Trap). I was like for me this is one of the biggest tracks ever and I could never do it justice in my eyes. So instead of remixing it I fucking VIP’d the shit out of it. HAHA!!!! It true to the original, getting more bass in it and a heavier snare and of course Trappin at the highest energy point of the track haha. BOW!! #SINMIEDOOOOOOO!!!

Avicii - Last Dance

Despite its title, ‘Last Dance’ is certainly not the swan-song of the haughtily debated Avicii. It is however one of the only new songs that we’ve heard from him in quite awhile. Avicii has the tendency to rinse out his new tracks for far too long before their official release (i.e. Nicktim, Levels, Silhouettes, etc.). To me, this severely undermines the potency of the record because the mega-buzz surrounding an unreleased “ID” eventually wears off. Maybe I just haven’t been to an Avicii show in awhile, but it seems like we may have gotten the official cut of ‘Last Dance’ before it has worn out its welcome.

Released on One More Tune, “Last Dance”has got all the euphoric trance stabs, bright chord progressions, and white noise crescendos that we’ve come to expect from the young Swede. But there is something that stands out and not necessarily in a good way: whistling.

Obviously every artist is entitled to their own sound, but whistling? Haven’t we already heard this before in one of Avicii’s earlier releases “Street Dancer”?Whistling is a gimmick, not a sound no matter how catchy it is, and believe me, this song is catchy. Even Flo Rida caught on and used the perky sound in his latest chart-topping single (haha), “Whistle”. Moreover, Avicii’s single bears the official title, “Last Dance (Original Club Instrumental),” another gimmick/marketing ploy implying that there will be a forthcoming “Vocal Mix” for you to spend more money on.

Despite many critiques over his meteoric rise to fame, will this be the “last chance, last dance” for Avicii? Probably not. He’s got an insanely accessible sound and a die-hard fanbase. In short, he got this. I just hope that as his career develops, he takes a step out of that giant head of his #doubleentendre and produce something new. I’m not calling for a return to the darker sounds of Tim Bergling (although that would be amazing). I just want to see some growth. The EDM world is transforming at such a rapid pace, eventually people are going to grow bored of the same old same old, even if it is Avicii.

Electric Zoo: The Official Afterparties

Electric Zoo is this weekend! The festival grounds are looking spectacular and are eagerly awaiting the feeding frenzy. With 100+ of the world’s top electronic music artists performing and a perfect three-day forecast for the city, our excitement is palpable. But the fun doesn’t stop at Randall’s Island: Made Event is hosting 6 Official Electric Zoo Afterparties. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Best Buy Theater and Roseland Ballroom will be open 11pm to 4am with stacked lineups of your favorite artists. I’m happy to see that Made Event has billed performers from both on and off the Electric Zoo lineup. Although many artists play very different sets in a club vs a festival venue, redundancies can occur.

That said, each night has got something special to offer. This Friday, it’s all bass music at the Best Buy Theater, featuring the heavy wobblings of Zeds Dead, Netsky w/Dynamite, Mt. Eden, Araabmuzik, and 12th planet. I’m a huge fan of all the artists spinning this show, but Araaabmuzik is the deal-sealer. His live shows are utterly mindblowing (see why here). Meanwhile, at the Roseland Ballroom trance will reign with performances by Michael Woods, Ferry Corsten, and Gabriel & Dresden. Each of these acts is phenomenal in their own right, but the real draw for me are the two half-hour sets between headliners, when Michael Woods will be spinning back to back with Ferry Corsten (1:30 - 2am) and later Ferry will spin b2b with Gabriel and Dresden (3:00 - 3:30am). It’s always a special experience to see artists actually play with one another rather than purely sequentially.

We’re probably going to rest up on Saturday night, but if your electric appetite is not yet satiated you can check out what is sure to be a fantastic performance by Markus Schulz at the Best Buy Theater as part of his Scream Album Touror you can swing by Roseland Ballroom for a ridiculous night of electro house from Adrian Lux, Bingo Players, Benni Benassi, and PeaceTreaty… we may not end up staying in after all. Then on Sunday, the Best Buy Theater will be presenting a magnificent night of trance and progressive house from Egyptian duo Aly & Fila vs. John O’Callaghan, with support from Jochen Miller and Jaytech, who just released his new album Multiverse, which we reviewed earlier this month. Lastly, Roseland Ballroom will close out the Electric Zoo festivities with a massive show featuring Bart B More, Zedd, Hardwell, and Treasure Fingers.

Electric Zoo is almost upon us! Check out the complete list of official afterparty offerings below and purchase your tickets here.

Look for us this weekend, we’ll be wearing the ICanGiveYouHouse tanks. Come say hello!

Hardwell: Bootleg Pack Trilogy

To celebrate reaching 300,000 facebook fans, Hardwell has released an enormous Bootleg Pack “Trilogy” loaded up with over 60 of his biggest bootlegs and edits that he has played out over the past four years. We don’t regularly post bootlegs here on I Can Give You House, but if you’ve ever seen Hardwell live, you know that these EDM concoctions go off. As a DJ, they are great for making your sets more dynamic and exciting.

If that wasn’t enough, the Dutch star has also included an exclusive Bonus Bootleg Pack, which includes a number of brand new bootlegs such as his newest creation “In My Arms,” which was featured in Hardwell’s radio show Hardwell On Air this week.  Additionally, he’s included the mega hit bootlegs “Show One Love” and “How Soon Is Glory,” as well as many unreleased bootlegs such as “Blow Up in the Deep”, “Rage N Stuff” and “Atom Slippy.”

Skrillex & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley - Make It Bun Dem After Hours EP

In April of this year, Skrillex released his “Make It Bun Dem” collaboration with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, which was hailed as a tremendous leap in musical innovation. I myself wasn’t completely sold on the track. It was marketed as a much bigger hit than it ended up being, and seemed to be cashing in on the idea that reggae and dubstep were foreign entities brought harmoniously together from inconceivably different ends of the musical spectrum.

The truth is (PRETENTIOUS MUSIC SNOB ALERT), dubstep is more like a second cousin of the Rastafarian genre, drawing heavily from dub music, which itself is just an iteration of reggae that cropped up during the 1960s. Take a quick listen to Flux Pavilion’s 2012 release “Excuse Me” and you’ll notice that this union is nothing novel.

Today however, the buzz is back with OWSLA’s release of the Make It Bun Dem After Hours EP, which includes a whopping 6 remixes of the “reggae-step” single, from a sensational array of electronic talent.

While I enjoy Culprate’s dubstep re-edit and the chilled-out trap remix by Flinch, as well as the groovy tech-house and break remixes from Brodinski and French Fries respectively, the submissions by David Heartbreakand Alvin Risk are the true gems.

Heartbreak’s remix blew away my expectations. His version starts with the original dubstep introduction, but then builds into (the old school ravers are going to flip for this)… hardstyle! Yes, we’re talking classic hardstyle that was banging through the rafters at every basement/warehouse rave during the 90s. Then, as if this wasn’t already insane enough, Heartbreak switches tempos completely and throws in a moombahton drop for the second half of the track. The best part is that it works. It’s daring because it completely defies all contemporary music structure, but that’s what sets it apart from the rest. Finally, Alvin Risk does the dirty all over “Make It Bun Dem” by designing a completely new melody and laying down one of the most aggressive electro drops that I’ve ever heard. If you’re headed to Electric Zoo this weekend, you have to check out his set to hear this remix live. Absolutely phenomenal.

All the remixes are out today so have a listen below and grab your favorites on Beatport.

Dada Life - Feed The Dada

With a new US tour scheduled for September/October and their first full-length album The Rules Of Dada due in the near future, the maniacal Swedes of Dada Life have released another suitably titled single, “Feed The Dada”. In a teaser for the track, which they released a month ago Olle and Stefan proclaimed that “Feed The Dada” has the, “Biggest. Drop. Ever.” While this claim may be up for debate, the track is certainly strong contendor for the drop to end all drops.

The duo has come so far since their early “chip-tune” releases like “Big Time” in 2006. Now their productions are wavering on the edge of sonic perfection and every tune they release is irresistibly addictive. ”Feed The Dada” raises the bar even higher and makes you question how their music can get any more enormous. I guess we’ll just have to keep “doing the dada” to find out.

Head over to Beatport to purchase ”Feed The Dada” now!

Benny Benassi Rough Road North American Bus Tour

Benny Benassi is hitting the road Italian style this fall with 16 dates on the West Coast and Texas. The Rough Road Tour comes to the United States with a great supporting cast including Krewella, Congorock, and up and comer Pink Is Punk. At 45 years old, Benassi has aged like a fine Italian wine, and his dirty house beats are not to be missed. More info on tickets will be released soon, but for now sip on his latest remix of Bob Marley’s “Jammin”.

Will Smith - Gettin’ Jiggy Wit it (Viceroy “Jet Life” Remix)

Viceroy is someone you can count on to serve up the good vibes. His sun-soaked remixes of Notorious B.I.G. and Wiz Khalifa are at the top of my beach cue. Now he’s delivered another spectacular disco house throwback with his “Jet Life” remix of “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” by the Will Smith. This remix effortlessly resurrects your 90s nostalgia, but makes sure to introduce something completely new and worthy of the Fresh Prince. Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t always time to hit bust out the bikinis and jam out by the poolside. As Viceroy himself so aptly reminds, “Summertime. All The Time.”
